Front of House (FOH)
The guest-facing side of a restaurant — hosts, servers, bartenders, and the dining room where service happens.
Front of house (FOH) is the part of the restaurant guests see and interact with: the host stand, dining room, bar, and the servers, bartenders, and runners who work it. It is the counterpart to the back of house (BOH), the kitchen side.
FOH is where reservations, table management, order entry, and payment happen, so point-of-sale handhelds, reservation books, and guest-facing payment flows live here.
- Roles: host, server, bartender, food runner, busser, floor manager.
- Where software lands: reservation and table-management tools and the POS terminals servers ring in on.
FOH labor is measured against covers and check average, since service staffing is driven by how many guests are in seats, not just total sales.
