Resy is the reservations, table-management and guest-CRM platform to pick when a full-service restaurant or bar wants a booking network behind its name and flat monthly pricing with no per-cover fees — not a point of sale. If you run a sit-down room that lives on reservations and want to be found by diners as much as you want to run the floor, Resy fits. If you need to take orders, fire tickets to the kitchen, or run a QSR, food truck, or takeout window, this is the wrong tool — Resy manages the book and the table, not the check.

Resy is a reservation and table-management system owned by American Express, not a POS and not a payment processor.

What Is Resy #

Resy pairs an operator back-of-house product — Resy OS — with a large consumer-facing discovery and booking network, the Resy app and website. Restaurants use it to manage service (the floor plan, the waitlist, guest profiles) while diners use it to find a table and book one. The platform is owned by American Express; the corporate entity is Resy Network, Inc., and it goes to market as "Built for hospitality. Backed by American Express."

One thing to understand before you shop plans: the reservations stack now spans two brands under the same Amex roof. Two of the four published plans are labeled "Powered by Tock," which means Resy and Tock are sold as a combined reservations-plus-experiences offering with a separate Tock Dashboard login.

Resy is built for full-service restaurants and bars that take reservations — its core market — plus wineries running tastings, tours and club memberships, hotels, and hospitality groups, each with their own solution. Experience- and event-led venues (prepaid tickets, deposits, prix-fixe) are served by the Tock-powered plans. It is not aimed at quick-service, fast-casual, food trucks, or takeout-only operations.

Features #

Table and reservation management #

The core is unified reservations with floor-plan and table management that the operator runs from the Resy OS dashboard in a browser. Full Floor Plan Management on Web lets a host see and work the room, and Dashboard Booking lets the team book a guest directly on the dashboard and toggle between venues for a group that runs more than one room.

Walk-ins and waitlist #

A walk-in waitlist captures demand at the door, and an online waitlist version can be toggled on or off — so a host seats walk-ins against the same floor plan that holds the reservations, rather than keeping a paper list at the stand.

Notify — turning cancellations into covers #

Notify auto-alerts guests when a wanted reservation opens up, so a late cancel at 6pm becomes a filled table at 8. It is tiered: Basic on the lower plans, Priority on the higher ones.

No-show and revenue protection #

Resy stores a card to charge for no-shows and late cancellations through credit-card holds and cancellation fees, takes deposits at the time of booking, and runs full prepayment for an experience. The Tock-powered plans add chargeback coverage on contested chargebacks up to an annual aggregate of $25,000 per business (credit-card holds excluded).

Guest CRM and repeat business #

Guest profiles carry customizable tags, notes, visit history and spend data, so a server knows the regular's usual table and a manager can see who drives repeat business. Guest communications are customizable across the booking journey, and exclusive booking groups let your best guests book first.

Events and experiences #

Event ticketing and experience tools — prix-fixe, ticketed dinners, tastings — are strongest on the Tock-powered Essential and Premium plans, which is the reason an experience-led venue would choose that side of the stack.

Analytics and the discovery network #

An advanced analytics dashboard reports on demand, guest insights and revenue, with automated guest insights on the 360 and Premium tiers. On the demand side, Resy cites a consumer network of 60 million-plus diners (its own figure), and the Resy Credit benefit steers eligible Amex Card Members toward U.S. Resy restaurants — the discovery pull is a real part of what you are paying for, alongside the operator tooling.

Integrations and the tech stack #

Resy connects to the systems a reservations-driven restaurant already runs, and the POS link is the one that earns its keep: it syncs reservation and check data in real time, so a guest's spend, their per-person average, course statuses, and the night's top-selling categories flow back onto the profile and the analytics without anyone re-keying it. Named POS and event partners include Toast, Square, Lightspeed, Aloha, Micros Simphony and 3700, Heartland Xpient, Positouch, Squirrel, Lavu, Maitre D, and Tripleseat. On the discovery side it feeds Reserve with Google, MICHELIN, The Infatuation, Wine Enthusiast, and Meta so bookable availability shows up where diners already search. Fishbowl and Loyalist cover CRM and loyalty, Google Analytics and Bloom Intelligence cover data, and WineDirect and Commerce7 serve winery e-commerce. Worth noting against the plan map: POS integration ships on Platform, Platform 360 and Premium but not on the entry Tock-powered Essential plan.

Developer API #

A Booking API embeds real-time booking into your own site or app for groups that want to own the booking surface.

Pricing #

Resy publishes flat monthly pricing with no per-cover and no per-reservation fees — a deliberate contrast to network-fee competitors. There are four plans: two on Resy's own stack, two "Powered by Tock."

Plan Price Stack Prepayment fee What you get
Platform $289/month Resy — Reservations + table management, a simpler approach, plus POS integration
Essential $289/month Powered by Tock 3% on prepayments* Reservations + table management + advanced customization + robust event ticketing (no POS integration)
Platform 360 $459/month Resy — Everything in Platform, plus advanced analytics and automated guest insights
Premium $459/month Powered by Tock 2% on prepayments* Everything in Essential, plus lower prepayment fees, POS integration, premium on-demand phone support, and robust experience tools

* Standard payment-processing fees apply on top of the prepayment fee.

The honest read: the headline is clean — $289 or $459 a month, no per-cover fees, stated plainly in Resy's own FAQ. Two catches sit underneath. First, prepayment fees apply only on the Tock-powered plans (3% on Essential, 2% on Premium); a normal reservation with no prepayment carries no such fee. Second, the standard card-processing rate on prepayment flows is not published — the page says only that standard payment-processing fees apply, so the flat percentage and per-transaction fee are set at onboarding rather than listed. Watch the plan map, too: POS integration is included on Platform, Platform 360 and Premium but is left off the entry Tock-powered Essential plan. Resy requires no proprietary hardware and sells no terminals — it is web and mobile software that rides on top of the POS you already run.

Who It's For (and Who It Isn't) #

Good fit: full-service restaurants and bars that take reservations and want the diner-facing booking network as much as the back-of-house tooling. It pays off most for a room where the host works a floor plan, where no-shows cost real covers, and where a guest CRM of tags and spend history drives repeat business. Wineries, hotels and multi-room hospitality groups are first-class segments, and experience-led venues selling ticketed dinners or tastings should look at the Tock-powered plans.

A concrete picture of the day it is built for: the host works the Resy OS floor plan on a browser, seats walk-ins from the same waitlist that holds the booked covers, Notify refills a 7:30 cancellation before the window closes, a card hold backstops the big party that tends to ghost, and when the guest's check closes in the POS their spend and course history post back to the profile for next time. That loop — book, seat, protect the cover, remember the guest across visits — is the case for Resy over a bare booking widget.

Weaker fit: quick-service and fast-casual operators, food trucks, and takeout-only spots — Resy does not take orders, fire tickets, or run a register, so a reservations platform is overhead they do not need. A single neighborhood spot that seats mostly walk-ins and never charges for a no-show may not clear the $289 monthly floor, and anyone who wants reservations bundled into their POS rather than billed separately should weigh a POS with built-in table management instead. A venue whose business is mainly ticketed events and prepaid experiences should look specifically at the Tock-powered Essential or Premium plans rather than the Resy-stack Platform tiers, since that is where the event and prepayment tooling is strongest.

Is It Legit and Worth It? #

Resy is a legitimate, well-backed platform: it is owned by American Express, carries a large consumer booking network, and earns a strong 4.5 on Capterra. Operators consistently praise ease of use, the support, and having reservations, waitlist and guest data in one place. For a reservations-first restaurant, the Amex backing and the discovery pull are the real differentiators against a bare booking tool.

The recurring complaints are worth pricing in. Operators report friction in the Resy and Tock operator and guest apps, and several note that interface changes have disrupted workflows a team had already learned. Occasional bugs come up, and there is a learning curve for new hosts and staff getting comfortable with the dashboard and floor plan. The two-brand split is its own adjustment — running a Tock-powered plan means a separate Tock Dashboard and its own terms, not one unified login. None of these are dealbreakers for a reservations-driven room, but budget for the onboarding time and know which side of the stack (Resy or Tock) your plan actually sits on.

Alternatives #

  • Toast — if you'd rather run reservations inside your POS, Toast Tables folds guest booking and guest data into the same system that takes orders and fires the kitchen.
  • SpotOn — restaurant POS with built-in reservations and waitlist, for an operator who wants booking and the register under one vendor.
  • TouchBistro — iPad POS with reservation and table-management modules, a fit for full-service rooms consolidating onto one platform.
  • Lightspeed Restaurant — processor-flexible POS whose table management suits full-service and multi-location groups.
  • The direct booking-network rivals are OpenTable, SevenRooms, and Tock (the last now under the same Amex roof as Resy). Compare the field in our restaurant reservation & table management software guide.

Login & Support #

Operators sign in through the Resy OS Dashboard at resy.com, with a separate Tock Dashboard login for the Tock-powered plans. Support runs chat and email on every plan, with On-Demand Phone Support for live partners (Resy cites an average pickup around ten seconds) on the higher tiers, plus a Resy Help Desk of training videos and articles. Diners book and manage reservations through the Resy iOS and Android apps and the Resy website.
