BentoBox is the digital-storefront layer for brand-conscious full-service restaurants and hospitality groups that want their own website, first-party commission-free online ordering, and online catering instead of leaning on third-party marketplaces — not a point-of-sale. The catch in 2026: BentoBox is now part of Clover, and new sign-ups are gated to Clover POS customers, so it's effectively a commerce add-on to the Clover ecosystem rather than a standalone platform you can buy on its own.
BentoBox (getbento.com) is a restaurant marketing-and-commerce platform — websites, direct online ordering, ecommerce, and catering — owned by Fiserv and folded into Clover Hospitality. It sits alongside a POS; it does not replace one.
What Is BentoBox #
BentoBox is a cloud-based marketing-and-commerce suite built for restaurants: branded websites, direct (commission-free) online ordering, ecommerce for gift cards and merchandise and ticketed events, and online pre-order catering, with adjacent reservations, email marketing, and loyalty tools around the edges. The point is first-party revenue — a diner orders, buys a gift card, or books catering through the restaurant's own site, so the guest relationship and the margin stay with the operator instead of a delivery marketplace.
Fiserv acquired BentoBox in 2021, and as of the live site in 2026 the headline reads "BentoBox is now Clover." The product navigation now links out to clover.com, and the copy states that BentoBox products are "only available to Clover POS customers." In practice that means BentoBox is the customer-acquisition and online-commerce front end, and Clover is the POS and processing engine behind it.
It has historically been strongest with design-led full service restaurants, fine dining, bars, cafés, bakeries, pizzerias, wineries and breweries, hospitality groups, and food halls — operators who treat their website as part of the brand, not an afterthought.
Features #
Websites #
BentoBox builds restaurant-specific sites in two historical tiers: preset templates (Essentials) or custom-designed branded sites (Plus). Both are mobile-optimized and SEO-optimized, with homepage alerts, lead-capture forms for job inquiries and newsletter signups, a restaurant dashboard, Local Sync for listings, and ADA/digital-accessibility features. This is the module BentoBox is best known for.
Online ordering #
Direct, commission-free online ordering runs on the restaurant's own domain, conversion-optimized and branded, with Apple Pay and Google Pay at checkout and automated marketing baked in. Because orders are first-party, the operator keeps the full ticket rather than handing 15–30% to a marketplace — the margin argument that sells the module.
Ecommerce #
A gift-card store, a merchandise store, and ticketed events let a restaurant take orders for revenue beyond the dining room — historically bundled into the Plus website tier. Useful for concepts that sell branded goods, run ticketed dinners, or lean on gift cards through the holidays.
Catering and pre-order #
Online catering and pre-order (plus dine-in order-and-pay) capture large-ticket and group business directly, with the guest building and paying for the order online instead of over the phone.
Reservations and marketing #
First-party reservations and a digital waitlist cover table management, two-way SMS with guests, capacity controls, and a guest database — commission-free, with no per-cover charges. The Engage side adds automated email marketing, a loyalty program, and events management to turn first visits into repeat business.
Operations through Clover #
BentoBox is not the kitchen or the register. Those run on Clover: the POS, payment processing, payroll and HR integrations, and the kitchen display system live in the Clover ecosystem, and BentoBox's online ordering feeds into that stack rather than running its own floor.
Pricing #
Current (2026): quote-only, bundled with Clover. getbento.com no longer publishes a public price page — the old pricing URL redirects to the homepage, and the product is sold to Clover POS customers through a customer success manager or [email protected]. There is no standalone public price today; it is quoted as part of the Clover package.
For reference, BentoBox's last published standalone pricing (archived 2023, before the Clover bundle) ran:
| Product | Price (as published) | Setup fee |
|---|---|---|
| Essentials Website | $149 /month per concept | + $1,000 setup |
| Plus Website (most popular) | $249 /month per concept | + $1,500 setup |
| Online Ordering | $79 /month per location | + $500 setup |
| Reservations | $199 /month per location | + $250 setup |
That page carried "no contracts, no hidden fees," marketed ordering and reservations as commission-free, and supported Apple Pay and Google Pay on ordering. Those à-la-carte numbers are a 2023 snapshot and are superseded by the Clover bundle — treat them as the ballpark the brand came from, not today's quote.
Processing: BentoBox is not a classic POS processor. Its online ordering and ecommerce take card payments (with Apple Pay and Google Pay), but there is no public flat per-transaction rate for the BentoBox commerce layer — under the Clover bundle, card processing follows Clover/Fiserv terms. Hardware: none for the marketing and commerce products, which are browser-based; the register hardware is Clover's own devices.
Who It's For (and Who It Isn't) #
Good fit: design-led full service restaurants, fine dining, bars, cafés, bakeries, hospitality groups, and food halls that want a branded site plus first-party commission-free online ordering and catering, and that are already on — or willing to adopt — Clover POS. If the website is part of the brand and you want ordering, gift cards, and catering revenue to flow through your own domain across locations, this is the lane BentoBox was built for.
Weaker fit: an operator who wants one all-in-one vendor running the floor, the kitchen, and the storefront from a single login — BentoBox covers only the storefront and leans on Clover for the rest. Quick service and food trucks that live on speed and a cheap register, or anyone unwilling to run Clover, should look elsewhere: new BentoBox sign-ups are now gated to Clover POS customers, so it is no longer a processor-agnostic standalone buy.
Is It Legit and Worth It? #
BentoBox is a real, established platform with a strong reputation among brand-first restaurants, and it earns solid third-party marks — Capterra 4.5 from 29 reviews. Reviewers praise ease of use, support, and the quality of the websites and ordering experience, and the commission-free first-party model genuinely protects margin against delivery marketplaces. For the design-conscious full service and hospitality segment, it is a legitimate, well-regarded choice.
The honest cons are worth pricing in. Cost and fees are the most common complaint — the historical model layered monthly website, ordering, and reservations fees on top of four-figure setup fees, and the current Clover-bundled quote is not published. Some operators report slow support and occasional bugs, and reporting depth draws criticism. The biggest structural caveat is the Clover gate itself: BentoBox is being consolidated into Clover Hospitality, new customers must be Clover POS customers, and whether you can still buy it fully standalone is ambiguous on the current site. If you are not on Clover and don't want to be, that is the deciding factor.
Alternatives #
- ChowNow — commission-free direct online ordering with branded apps; the closest head-to-head on the first-party ordering margin argument, without the website-design focus.
- Olo — enterprise digital ordering and delivery aggregation for multi-location groups that need ordering to feed many POS systems, not just Clover.
- Square for Restaurants — a free website builder plus commission-free online ordering bundled with a flat-rate POS; the simplest all-in-one path for a café or small full-service spot.
- Clover — the POS and processing engine BentoBox now runs on; if you're evaluating BentoBox today, you're effectively evaluating the Clover ecosystem.
